Forged aluminium heat sinks and housings

LED fixture life is specified against junction temperature, so how well heat leaves the junction is usually the governing requirement.

Engineering requirements we usually see

Conduction from junction to fin depends on the continuity of the material along that path. Where the alloy, section design and process parameters suit it, forging can reduce typical porosity risk, which may help a heat sink deliver the thermal behaviour the thermal model predicted. Actual thermal performance still depends on structural design, alloy selection and heat-treatment condition.

Commercially that matters because a housing running cooler can help a fixture hold its rated life, or let the designer drive the same LED harder.

Continuity through the section

Fewer interruptions along the conduction path from junction to fin.

Fin geometry

Forged fins can often run thinner at comparable stiffness, buying surface area within the same envelope.

Finish compatibility

Takes anodising and powder coat, including the darker finishes architectural lighting tends to specify.
