A weld depends on the material either side of it, and a seal depends on the surface carrying it. These parts are therefore sensitive to internal continuity. Where the alloy and process suit the geometry, forging can reduce typical porosity risk, which may make welding and sealing behaviour more predictable across a production run.
Where geometry allows, weld preparations and other features can be formed in the die rather than machined afterwards.
